Eco Driving

Applying eco-safe driving is a proven factor that contributes to road safety and reduced fuel consumption and therefore reduces our overall carbon footprints.

Here are some Tips for Eco Driving.
  • Avoid over revving your engine and pumping the accelerator when starting and moving away.
  • Use your accelerator smoothly and progressively. Where appropriate get off the 'Gas' and let the cars momentum take you forward.
  • Use a speed that is appropriate to the road and traffic and weather conditions. The greater the speed the greater the fuel consumption and emissions. Remember that traveling at 70mph will use aprox 20% more fuel than traveling at 55mph.
  • Always look as far ahead as possible this will allow greater hazard awareness and enable you to plan and anticipate the actions of other road users. Be proactive rather than reactive. This will enable you to get off the 'gas' earlier and use the engine braking that will use far less fuel and will allow you to keep a safer 'space' around your vehicle.
  • Always switch off your engine if you are stuck in heavy traffic or not likely to be moving very soon. Always consider saving fuel and lessening C02 emissions.
  • Keeping your vehicle regularly serviced will reduce your fuel consumption and maintain it's safety on the road.
  • Avoid carrying unnecessary weight in your vehicle - the more weight the more fuel consumption. Also removing roof rack and carry bars when not in use will have the same effect.
  • Plan your route to avoid regularly congested areas and where at all possible consider the time of day for your journey - rush hours for instance.
  • Consider passenger sharing and where possible avoid short journeys.
Reducing our fuel consumption is good for our pockets and our enviroment.
